I never thought I'd ever see one on CL. Much to my surprise, I just found this all original '77 Matador on my local craigslist. While it may be utterly terrible to drive, I'm just amazed that there's still one in existence that's in good shape. Resto-mod, anyone?

Saw a 4-door Matador a few years back. More surprised by that than I was by a Dodge Aspen I saw a month or so before that. I figured both would have rusted away to nothing.

They were ugly then, and any survivors are still ugly. Poor AMC, outside of the javelin and AMX they just couldn't design a pretty car.

buddy had one of these in high school in the late 80s. Most unreliable pos ever.Weirdest electrical faults you can name. Surprised that any survived. Cool find though.

I can see liking the Pacer, it kind of has that George Jetson thing going for it. The Gremlin....meh...it's better than a Maverick, I suppose...but not by much.

This car was on Ebay recently and I'm pretty sure it's on Wikipedia under Matador Coupe. It's a thing of beauty and probably the best original one of these around. I owned one once and it was a hilariously fun car. Not a performer, just a big ol' American car that felt like it was the Titanic.
